Steve Konopa is serving his first term of office as your Secretary-Treasurer for Local 305. Steve has been a proud union member for 47 years. He is a native Oregonian and born and raised in the middle of the Willamette Valley.
For the past five years, Steve was Local 305’s President and, as well as, a Business Agent for over 10 years.
Steve grew up on a farm and is used to hard work. He is a third generation union member of the butcher’s union. He started working as a meat cutter in the grocery industry in 1975. His background includes working for the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 555 as a Union Representative, Staff Director and Grievance Director, as well as being on their Executive Board.
In 2010, he switched labor industries to the Teamsters in Salem and then in 2013 with Local 305 in Portland.
Steve has been married for 46 years to his lovely wife Sharon and together they are enjoying three adorable grandchildren. When asked about his Union advocacy he smiles and replies, “My Dad taught me to be proud of who I am, where I came from and try to make a difference in the lives of working people”.
As Local 305 President and Union Representative, David Schmidt assist the Secretary-Treasurer in the day-to-day operations of Local 305, in contract negotiations, Business Agent training and oversees all meetings of the Union, along with many other duties.
David has served as the Representative for the Solid Waste Industry in the Tri-County area and the Movie and Theatrical Industry since 2015. He also serves in a key role as a Union Trustee for the Oregon Teamsters Employer Trust (OTET) since 2016.
David is a 33-year Teamster who began his career in 1990 working for Pride Disposal in Sherwood Oregon after serving his four (4) year term in the US Army as a motor transport operator. He was a shop steward for many years before becoming a Local 305 Union Representative.
David believes, continuing to build strong Teamster contracts is the foundation for our members and their families, so they will be well taken care of and feel secure going into the future. He also believes it is such a great honor and privilege to represent our Local 305 membership.
